I'm looking for an LCD to complement my 15" laptop. Ideally I would get a 24" but my desk has a shelf over it which only leaves 14.9" (about 38 cm) of vertical space between it and the desk. I've looked at the specs for a lot of LCDs, and figured that it would likely have to be a 22" diagonal or less, but the vertical heights go anywhere from 13" to 17". The reason I'm guessing is that the spec sheets don't tell whether the dimension is for the box, the viewing area, or the monitor with stand. For example this 22" (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-TechBargains&cm_mmc=AFC-TechBargains-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16824236067) is actually shorter than this 19" (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-TechBargains&cm_mmc=AFC-TechBargains-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16824254042) going by the listed dimensions.
:)
If you have time, could you please measure the height of your LCD including the stand? I need a few samples from 19" to 24" monitors.

I have a 22" LG Flatron W2252TQ that I have been using. Measured height with the stand and it is right around 17" in height.

Thanks for the data, guys. Just going by the 3 22" samples, I'm thinking I'll have to drop the size even farther to 20". And I'm already getting 16:9 so I can't really make it any wider.

22" Samsung 2253BW is 16"
19" Samung 933BW is 15"
19" emachines is 16"

EDIT: personally I love my Samsung monitors. <3

The consumer line of Samsung LCDs seem to have a huge glossy bezel, which I guess could add an inch to the height, or maybe not. I hope your emachines is a 4:3 or I'll be pissed that even a 19" can't fit. :)
