View Full Version : [ubuntu] compatible printer

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell Latitude D610 and am having problems configuring my Dell 720 Photo Printer. I noticed that there are many other printers on the list that are easy to configure. What is a good, older, inexpensive printer that I can find on eBay that will work with Ubuntu, and other Linux distros as well. I run two other distros that are based on Ubuntu (Linux Mint, Xubuntu) as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much anything HP will work.

I got my HP Photosmart c4500 in a sale for about 50 ($75)

You would be wise to research here:
and here...

Depends also on what you print.. :)

Personally, if I require photos I take a memory stick with the images to our local ASDA (Walmart in the USA ?) and have them printed there. Much cheaper.

I do have an old (2001) HP 930C Deskjet which still works fine but I only use it for the odd letter or draft poster ..

I too had a Dell 720 which I used to print the odd documents that had to be printed. When I switched my last Windows system to Ubuntu, I couldn't get the thing to work until I got the same advice that Terry offered. Now I am printing with the 720 using the Lexmark z600 driver. Anyway it works on an ASUS Eee PC 1000H. See http://www.seanelavelle.com/2008/03/24/installing-a-dell-720-printer-in-ubuntu-linux/ and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=215657&highlight=How+to+install+Dell+720+printer. Good luck.
