When I click "Shut Down", Ubuntu just logs out

So whenever I click on my name (on the taskbar), then "Shut Down", Gnome logs out instead of shutting down. If I tell it to shut down from the log in screen, it works fine.

Any ideas?

I think this is a hardware issue.

Something to do with acpi; I have a similar issue with one of my comuters.

are you using GDM or have you switched login managers?
