Hi! I have a dual booted Ubuntu 9.04 / Vista system, running and upgrading to the latest Ubuntu version at the time of it's release. My problem is this, every time I try to do a 'clean' install of the latest ubuntu release (trying to over write the older one) I end up having to do a total reformat, reinstalling Vista and Ubuntu. I know I'm doing something wrong, I have no idea what it is.

In short, I would like to keep my Vista partition untouched and upgrade from 9.04 to a full CD installation of 9.1, overwriting Jaunty.

Please help!!

Thanks,
Brent

When y want to reinstall ubuntu, choose that u want to install it in a specific partition.. Or [better] create all the partitions that ubuntu need and then install it.. may this guide (http://www.howtoplaza.com/how-to-install-ubuntu-904-on-a-manually-created-partition/) helps u..

A guide to popping on linux side by side with windows can be found here ..

http://apcmag.com/howto_search.htm?q=Keyword&catid=198

It goes through the setting up of the partitions you need and even teaches grub about a windows installation being there.

Hope it is of help.

Phill.

Thanks so much for your help! I'm excited to try out 9.1 with ext4, and linux one. I really hope I can overwrite 9.04 with a clean install of 9.1 and not have to reload vista!

Again, thank you for your fast replies.
