Hi all,

I'm an American living in Japan and having a Devil of a time trying to get Englilsh support for Linux. The world just shuts down on me when I mention an O.S. that isn't Windows. I really need some help getting online.

I just bought a refurbished MY30VFEE1 NEC MATE from Softmap, which came with a Japanese version of XP Pro. I took it off and replaced it with the Alpha version of Ubuntu 9.10, because the previous versions seem to be incompatible with the Graphics Card on the Intel 945G Express Chipset wich is inside it. I'm using a VH-100E <N> modem provided by NTT and I can't get Network Manager to connect me to the internet. I've got T-Com as my ISP and they offer no support in English.

Does anyone here have an idea of what might be causing my computer not to connect?

Thanks for any help that you folks are willing to offer.
