1. A 12 MP camera will suck those batteries dry far too quickly.
2. Why do you want so many pixels? You do know that the number of pixels does not equate to better photo quality, right?

As long as you can remove the memory card, any camera is compatible to an extent anyone can need, really.

The software that comes with cameras, in my experience, is only useful when talking about high-end, enthusiast/professional cameras, like SLRs.

And, in addition to what has been said, get one with a viewfinder (electronic or optical), the screen just doesn't do well enough in bright weather.

I'm a fan of Nikon, cause they make their own lenses and are of a very good quality.

Many pixels help a LOT when editing. They don't equal to good quality, but that's another issue.
