Is there an analog of Outlook Express/Windows Mail/(to less extent)Windows Live Mail? Except of monstrosities like Evolution and Thinderbird, of course.

yes.Thunderbird, evolution and kmail. They all offer all what outlook does and much more.

I have used (and still using) Thunderbird since its version 1.0. It should serve all what you did in outlook express. in fact I made a change from outlook express to thunderbird

I have also used evolution. Evolution is more than outlook express. It is rather outlook equivalent

Claws (http://www.claws-mail.org/index.php)?

Thunderburd, Evolution and KMail are abominations and should die.

kellemes, thanks! That's something I wanted. But why they are looking like clones of each other? Had someone forked the other's project?

Claws for me also. All else is Android/Google hence no need for TB, Evo, etc etc.

re Sylpheed...I read Slypheed was the former name of Claws.....

I like to compose e-mail with lots of formatting, colors, animated gifs and stuff. I never figured out how to do it in Evolution or Sylpheed or Claws mail. It says use an external editor, but then it won't let me copy and paste stuff back into a message.

T-Bird has a nice simple interface and lets me easily use all the colors and formatting I wish, including the little cartoons and gifs and stuff I always include.

I might be tempted to look elsewhere if the message composer has a nice simple interface and allows for all the formatting I insist on.
