Looks like Barnes and Noble is getting ready to release their own e-book reader device.

If this one is not so stupidly priced, I may go for it.
So far there is no word on what the price will be, but my opinion on an e-book reading device is that it should be <=$50.00; otherwise, there is no point in not using my netbook to continue handling this function.

Price is somewhat important to me, but as long as ereaders are encumbered with DRM, I just can't seem to get excited about them.

Book publishers invented the idea of the idea of DRM; it is unlikely that literature is going to be DRM free anytime in the foreseeable future, electronic or leather bound. The advantage of an e-book reader is not whether or not it is DRM free, it allows me too carry many copyrighted and free books in one small device at the same time. When I finally go back for more classes, I will definitely be looking for classes that use books that have e-book versions, my backpack will weigh around 5 pounds fully loaded.

Interesting that it is based on the Android OS.
The first successful e-reader will work with college textbooks, I haven't seen this offered yet.
Actually the Oynx Boox looks even better:

plus you can browse the web with Boox.
also the COOL-ER has cool colors:

...but when will someone take the tiger by the tail and make an ebook reader that also acts as a cell phone/camera/computer/etc. etc.

Besides the $300 price, the main issue for me is that the list of available publications seems to be recent books and newspapers. I like to read older stuff as a rule. I'm reading things now that are off the track and I doubt would be offered with one of these reading machines. For instance, and Tolstoy or Shakespeare?

Tolstoy or Shakespeare? Both Tolstoy and Shakespeare are pretty common I would be surprised if they were not available.

Possible. I just noted lots of blurbs for NYT "bestsellers" and that sort of stuff. I wonder where I could get a list of available books, didn't seen one on Amazon.

I read somewhere that it will also be able to read google books, so many classics will be available from there.
