Quick question:

After taking a break from Ubuntu, I've come back to the Beta of 9.10 and it appears that the login-screen management is severely limited (cant even change themes), and search lacks the context to specify hidden files, etc.

Just little things. Am I missing something obvious?

They don't use GDM any more with 9.10, so you can't change that easily any more.

Thanks for the lead. Can anyone provide a link to an explanation to what seems like a total deviation from the Gnome desktop? I must be missing some perfectly good reason for Ubuntu doing this. It seems very odd to me.

Found out a bit more here:

I feel the new login system is a bit warty, but that's certainly to be expected for a beta and a departure from the established norm, and I can really appreciate what they are trying to do.

Now to find a way to change the aesthetics of it.
