I was using Ubuntu 9.04, all updates installed, and had a 19 second boot time: 131864

and now that I upgraded to 9.10 with all updates installed, i get over a minute ten for boot time: 131865

what gives?

possibly has something to do with the beta version, submit to testing/bug reporting.

You're using a beta version of Ubuntu, that's what gives.
Alpha's, beta's , Release Candidates are not final products.
You're lucky that your system is still working at all.

The next upgrade you do could magically fix your issues
or render your machine un-bootable.

These pre-release distributions should only be installed on
a spare computer or in a Virtual Machine.
The developers use these bug reports to make the final product
stable. The "fix" is to remove all the 9.10 stuff and go back to 9.04.

I am sure you don't want to have to do that so, you could wait
for the next update, or boot into a previous kernel and
see if it boots up quicker.

It just doesn't make sense to spend a lot of time troubleshooting
a beta distribution that could change tomorrow.

Good luck

Hard to see the images.

My experience has been quite the opposite.

Karmic starts much faster and shuts down really quickly on both my 32 bit and 64 bit test machines.

Thanks coldReactive. It takes us old farts a while to remember to just click the magnifying glass. ;) The brainfarts are becoming more common...

unusuallygenius: Could you post some machine specs? If you could do that, I'll cruise launchpad a bit and see what I can come up with.

Might not be tonight, though.
