I can't get online with firefox. I think my set up needs tweeking? I can download updates, but I can't get to a functioning firefox homepage to surf. Cable connected to router easily serving PC with XP pro.

Check for the network settings in firefox. Make them direct connection if you are not using some kind of proxy.
