I thought some folks might find it interesting that after the London Stock Exchange (LSE) decided to drop Windows for Linux, Microsoft quietly removed their case study where they praised and described why the LSE chose their solution.
The study was at
http://www.microsoft.com/casestudies/Case_Study_Detail.aspx?CaseStudyID=200042
now it redirects to an error page (attached)

Google still holds a cached version

Details about LSE's decision:

Which quickly redirects after a split second to a not found page.

One can still get it and download the .doc file from http://www.microsoft.com/uk/getthefacts/lse.mspx

I also don't understand why the big paragraph at the top of that page makes me think they chose Windows.

I wonder what MS wanted to charge them to upgrade all that crap. most likely MS pulled the old no longer supported blah blah blah must be upgraded blah blah blah all new hardware required blah blah blah....license renenewal fee.....

LSE heard at all that and choked. Then looked at what Wall Street is running (linux/unix running proprietary trading software that they own outright) and what it cost them ( 10% of MS cost) and kicked MS to the curb without a second look.

Got no sympathy for Microsoft whatsoever. All the evil crap they spread about Linux does pee me off. Its great so that they are getting their just desserts.

Have to admit the last 2 years have not been good for Microsoft, but thats what you get when your greedy.

Or it could be related to the events of September 2008 with traders loosing millions because the LSE's trading systems went down. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1283763

I heard that Accenture was more to blame than Microsoft for that event.

The page
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/getthefacts/lse.mspx
actually has a streaming video which says (among other FUD about Linux) that LSE chose Windows over Linux for reliability. (screenshot from video attached).

Watching the video one notices just how dead biased and deceitful is this whole report in every aspect: total cost of ownership, reliability and speed. Everything Microsoft claims, now proved to be in fact exactly the opposite.
