Hello everyone,

Recently I decided to swap Vista and all other Microsoft products for Open Source equivalents.
A couple of days ago I installed Ubuntu UNR for my netbook and it works great.

When trying to install the Ubuntu Desktop version to my desktop my installation gave an error. First of all, the try-out version on the bootcd did not work.
The installation was fine until choosing the keyboard set-up, after pressing next then i got an EM.

The error message I got was something like:
"Console setup has crashed - failed with exit code 2 - Further information in var/log/syslog - Installation may fail"

Does anyone know what the problem may be? My pc is relatively new and is definitely up for it.

I am very new to Linux and its components but eager to learn. So I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks!

I may not have time to help fully, but let's start.

Post what brand/model pc you have, also list (if you can) the amount of ram, motherboard and cpu model, and graphics card.

Oh, and I assume you are installing Ubuntu 9.04 for 32 bit, not 64??

Al right sorry.
Yes took the 32 bit ( I didn't know what the difference was)

I have a Compaq
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
1918 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce6150SE nForce 430
I am not sure about the motherboard. I'm not sure where to find it

Cheers

Whoops !!!....

You need the 64 Bit version for your desktop computer !!
go to

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

scroll down the page a little way and select 64Bit (the default is 32 Bit)
always burn the images at about 4X speed - it can save you SSOOOOOO much grief !!

Phill.

Hello!
Im' not sure that you need 64 bits SO. What you need first of all is, when booting from the live cd, is scanning the cd for errors. If it's ok, then install it again.
I have a similar pc, and I use 32 bits ubuntu.

Alright thanks, guys.

I'm downloading the 64 bit version.
Can anyone explain what exactly the difference is?
I'm going to check for errors on the cd, anyway. Just to be sure.

Cheers!

ALright I downloaded and burned the 64 bit version on a cd.
Now the installation starts smoothly. (Also the try outversion works. It didnt work before) After choosing my keyboard settings however (USA International zith Alt Gr Dead Keys) It says he is going to start up the partitioning menu or so, but then nothing happens. It remains in the keyboard settings menu, while the mouse pointer indicates loading all the time!

Help! I really want to install Ubuntu! Does anyone please have a suggestion?

Wait for a moment,it will examine your hdd and that can take a little while.
How is your hdd partitioned by the way?
What is on it? any OS?
