im decent with photoshop, so i dont want to download a theme i want to make my own. i love ubuntu, but i dont really care for the look, so i want to completely change the look of everything down to the smallest detail... the splash screen, the little ubuntu logo in the corner, the icons... ALL of it. and i would enjoy a project like that. the only problem is aside from making that images i would want to use in photoshop, i have absolutely no flipping idea from anything beyond that.

also im pretty new to ubuntu, so i might need someone to walk me through it. and if someone is willing to do that i would do some free photoshop work for them in trade. thanks in advance.

try ubuntu tweak to edit your splash screen and other stuff. http://ubuntu-tweak.com/

i think its better you google each thing you want as there are many things to do and there is a lot of great tutorials out there too.

i really want to find a tutorial that will allow me to make each individual piece in photoshop myself, then assemble it as my theme. so far all i can find is "turn your ubuntu into a mac" and then tweak it type tutorials. not exactly what im looking for.

any suggestions?

Creating a theme is not too easy:
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Tutorials/IconThemes
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Tutorials/GtkThemes

I think many people start withan existing open source theme and edit it:
http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2007/08/how-to-make-a-gtk-theme-that-uses-multiple-theme-engines.ars

Perhaps a message in the Art & Design sub-forum here looking for some help, or even on gnome-look.org might find someone willing to do the non-art related work for you (assuming you are going open source). A mockup image can often get people inspired.

mmmm...go to gnome-look.org (http://www.gnome-look.org) or deviantart (http://deviantart.com/) and find resources with creative common licenses. And start from there to tweaking existing themes and icons are really help you ...... and try to use gimp and inkscape instead of ps (yes... itz very hard for newbies)

Find a theme on gnome-look.org that you like, and on the description page, there should be a download option. It should download a .tar.gz, which you can extract somewhere, modify, and compress again.
