how do i install xubuntu inside windows on a second hard drive?

is it possible. i tried a couple days ago. installation gets as far as creating virtual disk images and just sets there. have let it set for quite a while. clicking cancel says i may get errors, but i let it go ahead anyway.

upon re-boot, i get the correct bootloader and the options, but just before i think i'm going to get to the desktop,it just stops at verifying space and say my swap file is to small. have changed several things, but can't get any further.

obviously windows is on the first hard drive, which doesn't have to much space, although it does have enough to install xubuntu, but it is wifes computer and i need to save THAT space for her.

is what i'm trying to do possible? i have searched and seen that is "supposed" to be, but.............. i can almost see that this won't work as it's technically not really inside windows, being on another hard drive, is it?

thank you
