The Asus is my father's laptop. I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on it last night.
I have a display resolution issue. When I was setting up Evolution not all of the boxes were visible. I looked at Screen Resolution in System> Preferences.
The display was represented as "Unknown" and showed resolution of 800x600 or 640x480 (4:3 ratio).
When I installed Ubuntu from the very same CD onto my own Compaq V5214ea it showed the screen to be laptop 15" and the aspect ratio 16:10.
How can I remedy this?
Setting up Evolution was a pain in the proverbial as the buttons at the bottoms of the boxes were invisible.

I have the same version on a Compaq laptop. The installation worked with no trouble there.
On the Asus the laptop display has not been detected, it just says "unknown".
