I have compiz 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 installed on a LinuxMint System and the cube is rotating..(with a ATI Radeon 3200 HD Graphic Card
and ATI/AMD proprietary graphics driver, installed through Envy.)

Can I attach a picture of my choice to the cube caps? If YES what do I have to do?

get the plugins-extra package for compiz. this will give you the cube reflection and deformation plugin. its much easier. you will just have to click cube reflection and deformation and under the cube caps tab, you can edit it
