I would like to install some apps from a magazine cd (actually dvd).

My current systme is Ubuntu-9.04 installed from a cd downloaded from Ubuntu.

I picked up a British magazine with a dvd named LXFS19DVD. It is a bootable disc with a bunch of apps on it. If I boot from it I can run those apps.

What I would like to do is to install them on my hard drive.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

I would first see if any of these programs are in Ubuntu's repositories.

Online repositories, or on the disc?

For instance, I want to install Blender. If I boot from the dvd, it is in the app menu. If I boot from the disc drive, it is not. How can I get Blender from the dvd to my disc drive?

Here's info on Blender: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Blender

Are there deb package files on the cd?

I have a dvd with the blender package on it, and a dial up internet connection.

It must be possible to install Blender, or any other package, from the dvd to my computer.
