Is there a reason that the Firefox that comes in the standard installation of 9.04 has its "Check for Updates" menuitem greyed out [under Help] ?

What if we'd like to update to Firefox 3.5 ? There is a Linux (generic) version out there on the Firefox site...

Thanks for any updates among the Ubuntu literati...

The update option is grayed out because Firefox is updated through the repositories along with the rest of the software. If you want to download FF from the site and use it, feel free to do just that.

Check out ubuntuzilla.py

Just used it today it works like a charm. The only thing is that it seems to install 3.5 in /opt.

A little update about FireFox.

I personally, use fireFox 3.0, over the newer FireFox 3.5. IDK ... I just like it better.

But for those of you that like to stay up-to-date with Apps, (in the Repository or not) ... they released FireFox 3.7 last week.
Unfortunately, for M$ Windows only ... I'm sure that the Linux version will not be far behind ... as Mozilla/FireFox is Open Source.

There are also, screenshots of the even newer FireFox 4.0 ----> http://linuxologist.com/apps/firefox-4-0-screenshots-released/

Lots of 'eye-candy,' new features and really fast ... or so they say. :P
