Hey! Just got my new laptop (Acer Aspire 5536)
I can't wait to istanll Ubuntu, but I don't know wheter to wait for 9.10 to be release October 29th (and meanwhile keep using XP) and then upgrade via the in-system upgrade tools to 9.10 when released.... oooor, just wait until 9.10

I mean, if upgraded later on, how recommended is that?

ty all!

9.04 is pretty solid. 9.10 is new and experimental. though remote, there's always the chance of it breaking something. I haven't tried ubuntu 9.10, but kubuntu 9.10 is very impressive.

I agree. Go with the 9.04 for now. It works wonderfully! :)

If you can wait a month, then wait. Karmic brings some nice default features which you will not get when you upgrade. Unless you reinstall 9.10 in a month time.

I would wait, but if you can't wait and don't mind doing a bit of extra work in a months time, install 8.04, 8.10 or 9.04.

I would suggest you download and burn the 9.10 beta CD, boot from that in LiveCD mode, and see how well it works. The beta, while not actually finished, is pretty close to the final product. This will give you a good indication of how well 9.10 will detect and work with your hardware before you install it.
