I'm trying to visualize out a story, now I could make a large SVG document, but when I'm brainstorming and don't have a specific time unit in mind, when I want to change the order of events while still keeping their relationship with other events, or when I want to add events in between what I've already established.

I would imagine something like this.

anyone know of something like this to help me plan out my story?

The closest thing I've ever seen is a task/project manager program. Also UML, which stands for Unified Modeling Language, see package umbrello . Good luck. Take open-source, and cook your own story planner.

Use Dia.

Or freemind, if it's available on Linux, I forget.

Maybe Labyrinth will do it for you? (It's a nice little mind mapping app).

I think I'll stick to writing outlines in tables. Looks like I'd have to develop such an application myself for my uses.

You may want to look into the codebase of (and possibly contribute to) Crow (https://launchpad.net/crow), which it seems is not usable at this point.

I cannot, for the life of me, find out what crow is specifically. If they had some concept art of a gui, and some specific functions, I might be more inclined.

search in synaptic for 'planner' or 'opensched',
or have a look at http://www.ganttproject.biz/
