Hi Friends,

I'm new to the Ubuntu community. I wanted to try Ubuntu on one of my friend's recommendation.

I've downloaded ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso image and burnt it on a CD.
When I tried to install Ubuntu (booting from the CD) on my desktop, it was throwing the below error:

-- Crc Error
System halted.

I even tried to run Ubuntu without installing (first option--Try Ubuntu without changing Windows). But still it says CRC error.

But the same CD works on my laptop. I was able to run it without installing.

Can anybody tell me what could be the problem? I want to install Ubuntu on my desktop. Please help.

Thanks,
Avinash

Interesting, could be hardware problem if you can boot from the laptop but not the desktop. I'd suggest trying to load something else from cd to see if maybe the cd-drive is bad.

Hi wojox,

Thank you for the reply. I missed to tell you in my post .. my DVD drive is in good condition. Its reading and writing CDs/DVDs properly. I tried booting with older version of Ubuntu (5.10) and was successful.
