By the way, are you going to be doing some regression analysis on this data? I really enjoyed regression analysis. I would like to see the results. The reason I ask is because you have several categories of questions that could have a relationship. Without asking what question you are solving, because that could bias further responses, I find it interesting to observe the relationship of one category to another. Sometimes with surprising results.

8. Firefox gets my vote of that lot. SeaMonkey is a derivative I find more comfortable for normal use. Opera was the first one I downloaded from the uni lab on 3 x 1.44mb floppies to take home and try before I got 33.6Kb.

For those of you who want to know the results, this is just an Elementary Statistics class so the teacher is only going to have us do stuff like mean, median, mode, standard deviation, etc. Won't be very interesting results but I'll do my best to post them. I'm very busy these days. :P

What's Elementary Stats? Sounds like really basic stuff to me. I never had to collect a sample. We get given samples, then we analyse. You won't use the median or the mode much. And variance is just stupid.

This survey will be the most biased survey in the history of survey sampling.

As there has been said, this survey will only represents lousily ubuntuforums community. Lousily in the sense that it will be biased too for ubuntuforums community, as only people whiling to fill your survey will be represented (there is no reason to suppose that the strata of no respondents has the same trend as the strata of (potential) respondents. Normally it doesn't.

As you say that this is a work for an introductory course in statistics, I suggest you to simply invent the data. You can add any correlation you want to it between answers before hand, so when you analyze it, you will have beautiful results. Your statistic skills will increase further making up the data than gathering as you are doing, as you will need to think about how to make the data plausible, etc.

I have enough now although I suppose I'll still be getting a lot more responses for a while. I admit that this is a very biased sample but it doesn't really matter as this is just for a grade. The teacher even told us we could make up the surveys if we wanted as long as we turned in a hard copy of them. Thanks a bunch and for those wondering, I probably won't post the results here because: 1. as was said it isn't accurate anyway and 2. the only results shown would be mean, median, mode, etc anyway so it wouldn't be very interesting. It depends, I don't know much about Hardware although I'll be able to put a computer together if someone provided me with the components needed. Just don't ask me about specs or even the slightest interest in them. I would say a 6.
Then you have the OS part. I know quite a deal about the Windows OS, mostly because I've worked with it since '95. And I know my way around Linux. I would like to give me an 7.
Software is also tricky. The software I use I know very well, the software I don't use not so well. Luckely I have some natural feeling for software so I learn to use it fairly quickly. However, don't ask me about photo editing, video edtiing and such, I just can't be bothered. Then again, I'm a software developer so I have (at least I hope I have) a basic understanding about how software works. On the whole I rate myself an 8.
