Hi. I'm a newb when it comes to networking.
but my problem is that i have a xubuntu laptop running fluxbox with my files on, and a brand new laptop with ubuntu jaunty.
i wanna know how to move my files over, preferably a program with GUI support, so i can just click and drag (its alot of files)
i have a router and my 2 wires to connect it, and i have searched this topic. I believe i have to use samba or an ftp program, but i dot seem to be able to get the settings right.
I click "network" on my ubuntu and cannot seem to see my xubuntu laptop and doing the smb:/// doesnt seem to help either.
ater a few hours fiddling around with it, im none the wiser.
if someone could just push me into the right direction? ^_^
i can only find pages for windows <-> linux networking problems

Ubuntu (not so sure about Xubuntu) comes with most sharing clients installed, but the server must be installed. The host machine (Xubuntu?) will need the server. For a one-time transfer, FTP might be adequate. At work, I can use IE to copy/paste files... perhaps Firefox can do the same?
Otherwise, NFS is more native to Linux, but Samba can be used.
Here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=79588) is an FTP server How-To, and another (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=218630) on FTP/ZeroConf.
