My sound has suddenly completely stopped working following a power-failure. I'd been playing stuff on YouTube just fine a little before the power went off, but earlier in the day I had removed and re-installed Pidgeon, Installed Wine and done a couple of other minor things - non of which required a reboot after completion.

I'm assuming it was probably the re-boot (rather than the power failure itself) that has triggered the problem. But I don't have a cluse as to where to start to debug this.

HELP!!!! :-)

I still get sound from my Skype headset, but everything else is dead - YouTube. MP3s. BBC iPlayer, etc...

Is there a way for me to check back against the changes that were made when I did the removal and re-installation of Pidgeon, etc?

What's the best way to start to diagnose a sound problem that appears to have come from nowhere?

Running Hardy 8.04, by the way...

Thanks if anyone can help - I'm stuck at the moment.

Mike

You'll find some package installation history in /var/log/apt.
