If you had pick between Google Wave and Opera Unite, which would you choose? Maybe Google Wave, because of their consumer-friendly monopoly on internet services and? Or Opera Unite, for the community behind it and the wide variety of features? Maybe this question is being asked to early, as Google Wave is just a pre-development preview as of 2009, but based on their description of the finished product AND Opera Unite's already proven statistics, which of the two looks "better"? Please post an explanation with your vote. Just wondered, I did not even know Google Wave existed till an hour or two ago lol.
Here's the main sites for the two projects and their corporations:

*-sigh-* I clicked Submit Thread absent-mindedly... I just randomly typed a title so I could click "preview post" to make sure the links worked, but then I click submit before I could post a poll and Rename it. I don't know how to contact the moderators, either. I'll try though:

Moderators: Please rename this thread to "Google Wave or Opera Unite?" and please add a poll as follows:
Poll Question: "Would you use Google Wave or Opera Unite?"
Options:
"Google Wave"
"Opera Unite"
(make that a "multiple choices available" please)

They aren't really the same thing, so you can't compare.

I know, I just said choose the one you'd rather have. If you don't like it, you don't have to vote. :)

I'll vote both, cause I want both. Wave for developing programs and websites between other authors, Unite so I can have a nice bit of Opera.

You don't need opera to use Opera Unite. Any browser will do. :)

No, I'm a person. Why would I be a troll? I love Opera, and I've followed Wave for quite some time.

It seems to me like google wave and opera unite have two completely different framework models. I pick googles.

I pick Google Wave, only because I already have gdata installed in many of my Rails apps.

You all seem to have the idea that Opera Unite can is for Opera only. That's not true. It can be used on ANY web browser. I use in on firefox all the time. Besides, I like Opera Web Browser. The Linux version looks just like the Windows version as far as I can tell, and amazingly, you can run it on just about anything with a screen; see the links. If you can find ANY program that is that platform-independent show me. :)
Opera Mobile (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/mobile/)
Opera Mini (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/mini/)
Vehicles (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/devices/vehicles/)
Portable Navigation Devices (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/devices/navigation/)
For Connected TV's (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/devices/tv/)

Home Appliances (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/devices/home/)
A preview of a connected TV (http://www.opera.com/business/solutions/devices/tv/video/)

And a few other Opera products:

Opera Mail (integrated to the browser) (http://www.opera.com/mail/)
Opera Dragonfly (http://www.opera.com/dragonfly/)
Opera Mobile (http://www.opera.com/mobile/)
Opera Mini (http://www.opera.com/mini/)
Opera Link (http://www.opera.com/link/)
Opera Unite (http://unite.opera.com/)

Hope it helps someone!

I don't know if I'm right, but from what I see Google Wave and Opera Unite seem to cater to two different audiences. Rather, both seem to have different features. How'd you even compare them in that case?

EDIT: Don't be cross with me for asking this, but are you an Opera fanboy? :D

I was not really comparing them, just wondered which people would rather have. Also I had just heard of Wave an hour before I made this thread so maybe a little unprepared. All I knew was that they both planned to revolutionize the social WWW.

EDIT: Don't be cross with me for asking this, but are you an Opera fanboy? :D Refer to last post and make an educated guess lol

Unfortunately it seems to use Wave you have to get a direct invite from Google itself rather than creating an account or something.

If you had pick between Google Wave and Opera Unite, which would you choose?

It's strange, I have seen these sort of posts all over the Internet Wave vs. Unite threads.

I think it odd because they are not really related in any way. In most ways they are the opposite of each other.

It's like asking if you are going to drive to work today or are you going to drink coffee on your way to work today?

They have nothing to do with each other really and their not mutually exclusive.

If anyone has used Google Wave, they know it is a sort of combination of a new type of Email, but much quicker like IRC. Sure you can embed photos or files or Youtube videos, but it's not the best way to share a lot of files or photos or whatever. Also, if someone adds a person to a Wave (like forwarding an Email) that person has access to everything in the wave including whatever files and photos you put in it. Wave can end up with tons and tons of people that you have no idea who they are.

Opera Unite on the other hand really has nothing to do with Email. There are Unite apps that let you share you entire Music collection. Apps that let you upload files to your computer. Apps to share all the Photos you want. Webserver App, etc...

The concepts behind them are also different.

Google Wave for example is more of a Cloud model. Your messages, photos or files you post are out on the Google machine. Out in Cyberspace.

Opera Unite is the exact opposite. Your files are on your computer. Not out on some other computer's hard drive somewhere.

Which would I choose. Both of course.

Google Wave so far seems like a better way to Email. You can collaborate faster and more easily especially with groups of people.

Opera Unite is great for hosting my files, music, etc to access from wherever I go and by whom I chose to give access.

I just don't see how you can compare/relate the two.

Sorry if it sounded like a comparison, I have already stated a few times that I just wondered which people would rather have if one was to be blown to chowder. :lolflag:

I am also waiting on my wave invite (come on Google!!!) Just checked out opera unite, and I can really see where this could come in handy.....nice idea. I like the idea of being able to share something with people I invite (my step-son, mother-in-law, ect).
