After installation, VLC does not show up in the Applications/Sound & Video. I can only fire it up thru Terminal.

Used this site for installation: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-3291-ubuntu-9-04-installing-vlc-1-0

Thanks,
Curtis

Because you installed from a non-official repo, and whoever created that package didn't take the time to have the package installer automatically create an icon. You'll have to take it up with that package's maintainers.

In the meantime, you can use the menu editor to add a shortcut yourself.

O.K. I can understand the logic.
Did what you said to do....no big deal....I'm always learning something new.
Thanks

You can always create a launcher yourself: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToAddaLauncher

Thanks for the info & tips.
I'm running 9.04.
Went thru System/Preferences/Main Menu/+NewItems fixed the problem.
On other notes, I got DVD SlideshowGUI running thru Wine on the same day so I'm all happy now!
