Ubuntu 9 install crashes "starting bluetooth"

I've tried repeatedly to install Ubuntu 9 onto a spare drive on my PC, but every time, no matter what options I pick, once it gets to "starting Bluetooth" it just hangs, and sits there.

I've tried the acpi=off option, and I've tried the safe graphics driver option - nothing seems to work.

help please!
