So I'm running 8.10 now and want to upgrade to 9.10. And instead of wasting around 5 hours just upgrading to Jaunty since my internet is so bad, I'll download an iso of Karmic.

Is there any way to keep my data as it is now?

I'm not new to installing but I've never upgraded like this before, usually I'd wipe the hard drive but since I've been using ubuntu more now, I'd like to keep my files and settings.

I'd like to keep my files and settings.

Make separate home partition following this (http://psychocats.s465.sureserver.com/ubuntu/separatehome) guide. After that install Karmic on top of your Intrepid.Do not format your home partition during install.
