Songbird (http://www.songbirdnest.com/) has the source and a windows .exe availiable.

I and I think others would like to try it but dont want to try the windows version. Can some/one of our great members build a .deb? :)

The site seems to suggest that waiting until they get their developer site up and running might be a good idea:

Build instructions for Songbird 0.1 Proof-of-Concept:
Step 1. Don't.

It's tough to build Songbird 0.1. If you want to try, you will need the source code.

I've got it running under windows, and I must say, "Wow!" I like. It's a little buggy, of course, and not all the features they talk about are there yet, but it's pretty damn nice for a 0.1 preview release.
As far as I understand, it won't run under linux under some of the code has been ported.

Does Songbird run on a Mac? Linux? (http://www.songbirdnest.com/support/#2)
Not yet, but we've got the best Mac developer on the job. Look for Songbird to work on a Mac real soon. We're also working on a Linux port. See the development roadmap (http://www.songbirdnest.com/development/roadmap) for details.

Haven't tried it myself though.

Sorry for the bounce. Didn't realize this was an outdated thread.

wait a second :-s , songbird was working on my linux box before. and i saw a little video on the songbird website that it was running on linux. i stopped using it because it was in the development stage (and seems like its been there forever) and was still quite buggy.

what happened?? did they decide to just create a windows app, then maybe later develop a linux port?? i think it would be a great media program and would love to see it being finished. especially for linux

Songbird ran fine as a binary on my Linux laptop back when I was using different distros. Songbird distributes it as a binary, so you should have no problems (like with Google Earth, for example).

I've got songbird going, but it doesn't respond to my media keys, so I'll be using Rhythmbox until Songbird plays will with media keys...and maybe after that.

The site, getdeb.net (http://www.getdeb.net/), has some 3.1 binaries (deb) for Gutsy... got one for x64_86 and for x86...

I upgraded to 0.3 and I'm having the same problem as Alize.

Terminal output

chris@chris-desktop:~$ songbird
Command 'songbird' is available in '/usr/local/bin/songbird'
bash: songbird: command not found

Any thoughts?
