MyGNUWorld.com is a new web site for the OSS Community. It will be a web site dedicated to introducing and helping people that are new to the GNU world. We, (and my we I mean me) are looking for volunteers from the people that are familiar to experts in the FOSS world to help with the collaberation of the web site. That is the broad purpose of the site. The site will use Joomla as the base for the website so we can spend more time developing and writing content than coding the actual site. If you would like to help (all are welcome) please respond here and register on the site. You will be given admin rights and we will go from there. If you have suggestions for direction, content, or even different software than Joomla please feel free to add them. We will definately be promoting Ubuntu on the site as one of if not the main OS recommendation. Hope to see you on the site.

I have added SMF to the site now as well. When you register on the main site it adds you to SMF as well. Discussion of how to use the site can continue on the site itself now.

Nothing is unique and special about it yet, except maybe this site is asking you the reader to come and be a part of making the site yours. But hey, maybe you are right and the site will be found to be a waste. Time will tell.

Do you mean it will be open house on who admins it. Im willing to help PM an msn or yahoo address and ill discuss what help I can offer (I specialise in Joomla setups when it comes to my prefered CMS systems for clients so i think I have alot to offer these kinds of projects, including launching my own today for business in the open source world, all be it 10 days late ) :)

That is correct. It is open house. The site belongs to the OSS community. \\:D/

As I suspected. It's a password catcher site. Don't sign up. It doesn't add your username to the forum database. Infact it just trys to get you to imput a password they hope is the same for the rest of your accounts.

That is certainly not the case. Everyone that has signed up has access and I even changed their status to Administrator. If you signed up the same was done for you. I am having trouble with the syncing of users between joomla and smf. Please don't make extremely harsh accusations without some proof.

You could of saved some trouble by mentioning that from the start.

Right now your site is acting like a PW stealer. I suggest you get that fixed soon. I donno if it's actually stealing PWs. But it seems so, with the database not synchronized.

As a matter of fact, in good faith, the ftp username and password for the site is

username: gnuworld
password: gnuMaster1

The database username and password is

username: gnujoomla
password: larkjoom

Check it out.

You are right, unfortunately I didn't think about doing so and I appologize. I hope that having the entire site's passwords available to you helps. I just hope that nothing malicious is done to the site since those are made available. I am not overly concerned about it as it is a new site and if we have to start over not much is lost.

Indeed I will. But What type of database server is it? Need to connect with the right manager to see em.

I wouldn't worry about that much.. See people round these Ubuntu parts, don't think we would intentionally fug pie your site.

It has already been suggested to me to use phpbb and I am considering it all the more now :). I hope people give the site a chance after this. It is certainly not malicious.

Yeah I found the problem. It's a bug in that type of software it's self. I might suggest you try out www.mercuryboard.com instead.

We have a poll on the forums to determine which forums we will switch too. I was going to ask people to vote there but they would have to register and that will get deleted so I added the poll to the front page. Please go to http://www.mygnuworld.org and vote on the poll that is on the front page about which forums to use. If you care that is ;)
