Hi all

I am looking for a decent file manager that will encourage and promote, efficiency, speed and power.

I am NOT a command line super hero, but I am willing to spend time to learn, as I am doing with vim, IF that investment will be repaid as in the aforementioned criteria.

I'm interested in the opinions of those who preferably, use both; ie midnight commander / emelFM2.

Continued development and support of the apps is also important.

I don't use "a file manager".

To me, it's much more comfortable to manage my files in the terminal, I also find it much faster.

cd dir<tab>
mv file<tab> /dir<tab>
cp file<tab> ...<tab>

As they say, TAB is king! ;)

The command line is good for a lot of things but IMO, a file manager, it aint.

Besides, like I said, I'm interested in the views of those that have used either of the FM's I listed above.

I've used mc almost as long as I have been using Linux (Redhat 5.2) . I find it indispensable for managing my server.

Do you know if MC is in continuous development?

I often use this criteria (rightly or wrongly) as a way to determine the strength and future of the product, though in the case of MC, that seems a mute point.

I like both. Depending on what fits best in the situation. I.E. no gui --> Midnight Commander.

Midnight Command is around for quite a long time now and
http://www.midnight-commander.org/ looks like development is still active.

I prefer mc for the rare times I need a file manager and for the even rarer times when I need a GUI file manager I like pcmanfm. Eventually I'll get around to trying vifm...

I like vifm. I have mc set to use vim but it doesn't load my vimrc which makes it useless to me. I don't really use either though, much better with the command line. I only pop up vifm if for some reason something isn't right.
