I don't have too much experience in making themes though. But my idea for this theme is to make it resemble gnome 1.0. I also need someone to create a wallpaper for this theme. This wallpaper should depict an old gnome holding a cane in the air, screaming "Get off my lawn!!!" while an innocent animal steps on it. :lolflag: What do you think?

And while we're at it, we can create a theme modeled after DOS. OH WAIT.

New isn't always better. Some people may download this theme for the lulz.

i'm leaving for vacation tomorrow, once i come back if you still need help, i'll try to learn the basics of theme creating and i will try to propose some ideas. :)

I would love to make it too! If I follow some guides, I may build the base of the theme, but the wallpaper, I will need some help on.

Well. I will make the theme. But I need someone to do the background also. I will do a gtk2 theme.

How are you going to make a theme of GNOME 1 and can you show a picture please?

Here is gnome 1.0

Here is gnome 2.26

I am using the gnome 1.0 icons to make a gnome 1.0 looking 2.26 theme.

This is all.

I'm pretty sure all you have to do to make it look like that is set an invalid theme..

I'm pretty sure that just results in displaying the default theme and settings.

Hmmm. Why don't you use something like Redmond, Crux, or any other old school gtk theme? hehe

Hi there, I think it would be fun, and that you would have fun doing it. Here's a nice place to start learning your theme creating; http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Tutorials/UsefulLinks/

It shows a fallback theme which looks really similar to Gnome 1.0's design. Then I guess all you have to do is make that wallpaper. :P

Okay, I have found some old themes on the svn-archive from 10 YEARS AGO! That should do the trick! Also I am going to try to recreate that old sawfish theme for metacity.

Here you go. (I just took half of my WIP theme's gtkrc and replaced it with 'MARTIANS ATE MAH BOOTAY')

The book "The Secret Life of Santa" (I know, who reads Santa books) actually has some pretty funny ideas in it
Granted, they are elves...
But who cares, throw a green tunic on one of them and voila~ gnome

Code:
mount /elf
unmount /tunic/red
mount /tunic/green

win!

And yet the panel, and icons remain the same. That's something I need to do.

That particular theme I fudged uses its own file for the panel called panel.rc. You won't get that for most themes because they keep panel-related stuff in the gtkrc.

I see. Could you change that theme to another theme? So I can see the change in the panel? I don't think it will look the same as gnome 1.0. Seeing as I could not find any icons inside the gnome 2.26 release.

I tried it a few months back from an old redhat release.
