Whenever I perform an update on my OS, it freezes the entire system permanently. When I log in, it still freezes...

Update with the Update Manager... :P

What version are you running of Ubuntu? I.E 9.10, 9.04, 8.10, 8.04, 7.10, 7.04 etc.

It looks to be your Xorg is hanging when the GDM is loaded or anything of GUI is. Try loading the login screen and click on "Options" then select and click "Sessions" then go into the X Session and do an update there. This MAY fix the issues if there is an available update from the repository list for 9.04.

Secondly if this has been a first attempt for 9.04 then it may be a grahics card driver issue. Keep us posted.

Help please. My update manager also freezes my system and I am running 8.04. A lot of my administration functions also don't work. They try but then disappear.
