I am currently downloading the latest version of linux, but I just realized that it said that I need a cd or something to write the os onto. My (windows xp, sp2) computer has no cd burner, and my only flash drive is 2gb, not 3 or 4. I am not very techy, so please give any instructions in a "dum-dum" way :p.
Before you say anything about this, all the posts everywhere are 4-6 years old.

Thanx,
Angela

just to clarify, does the machine not have a cd burner? or do you just not have a CD burning program? I think the Ubuntu installation guide recommends a good CD burning program and even teaches you how to use it.

There are cases of people burning the CD image onto their harddrive and use it as if booting from a CD (but that's too advanced for me to guide you through) but there's a catch, you can't actually INSTALL ubuntu if you choose that route.

Your options are:
1) check if your machine has a burner. If yes, download the burner recommended by the Ubuntu website

Here's a good read: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

2) Have a friend burn a CD for you
3) You also have the option to order a FREE CD from canonical here: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/
You probably want the Desktop Edition

If you order a free CD, it may take a couple of weeks to reach you

my machine is from 2005 or so, and has no cd burner. I donīt know how the cd thing would work,as I live in Mexico. I do appreciate the advice though :).

Not to worry =]
Canonical delivers to anywhere in the world. So you're covered in Mexico too. If you don't have any friends that can help you burn a CD, you can request a free CD, but it'll take a few weeks to get to you.
