I recently installed Hardy (which worked fine). I decided to upgrade to intrepid. Everything seemed to go OK in the upgrade. But upon the login prompt in Intrepid, my keyboard and mouse do not work. I searched for a solution for a few days but all I got was it's something to do with .xorg files. I'm pretty new to ubuntu and wouldn't know how to access and edit these files but, on top of that, I can't access anything anyway with no keyboard.
Well, I figured the best thing to do was (if possible) downgrade Intrepid to Hardy. After reading up on it, I found this can be pretty dangerous, so I didn't. Right now, I'm installing a fresh version of Dapper (only CD I have. I intend to upgrade, but only as far as Hardy!) I was wondering.. am I stuck with Hardy? is there a limitation with my hardware? Will I, at some point, be able to upgrade? Would a clean install work any better?

im not sure about the xorg.config but have you considered going to jaunty 9.04 as a clean install.
