Hello everyone :-)
I have upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04 by only installing /.
I have left the /home intact which is on another partition.
This computer is used by 5 people and they all had their own home directories in the previous version. I tried to add the same users with the same passwords and user names so that I would not loose the settings for each one.
Although it allows me to add users, when I press the button it says that the home directory already exists and that I should use another one. Which is of course NOT what I want.
I tried to rename the old home directories and then replaced the home directories created by 9.04 with the old ones. Although it allowed me to do that (as a root) when I tried to log on as this user, it told me that the user must have permission for the $HOME directory.. etc...
I remember that when I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 I had no problem with this issue. I think that it allowed me to use the same home directory and everything went smoothly.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to do what I want?
Another idea that I am thinking is copying everything from the old directory to the new home directory created by 9.04. Would that work? If yes would a simple drag and drop work? I am thinking of the hidden files. Of course I would be doing this as root.
Thank you all in advance
