Did you check md5sum (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM) and disc integrity (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck?action=show&redirect=CDIntegrityCheck) after you burned iso on disc? Did you get any errors?

When you are saying you installed via Wubi, did you download the complete ISO image.. and then run the Wubi setup or you used the wubi.exe from website which automatically downloaded the image.
Check in the Add/Remove Programs in windows XP whether Kubuntu is listed there?
Try removing it and then reinstalling it.
Else you may try checking if the kubuntu entry is missing from boot.ini in the C drive of Windows?

Download Ubuntu iso and then read this. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto)If everything is O.K. then follow this (http://psychocats.s465.sureserver.com/ubuntu/wubi) guide to install with Wubi.
