That doesn't include music videos.

My collection is about 30 songs.

According to MPD:

Artists: 186
Albums: 596
Songs: 3750

I've shared alot with my friends (can't say it's all legal..), I haven't heard 20% of my music! Shuffle is like a metal radio!

I should clean it up though, there's a lot of garbage in my collection :)

If you've got a collection like me, I'd recommend banshee for sorting it into directories.
(sudo apt-get install banshee)

According to Rhythmbox i have:

4511 songs, 13 days, 19 hours and 59 minutes, 42.2GB

September 26th, 2009, 12:40 PM
318 artists, 6879 songs, 22,7 days worth of music and slightly over 42 gigabytes of data.

Although I still have quite a lot of CD's I haven't ripped yet.. But the most important thing is that it's all good music, and all full albums. So no random songs or things that don't really belong into my music library.

not a single one :)

i am , or at least used to be, a big fan of DIY punk music, which comes legally free on the bands' sites , that's why i had so many gb's of music - considering that greece has a rather active DIY music community

iPods aren't hard to set up. You move your mp3's in them and you're done. :lolflag:

by looking at my collection on the wall I'd estimate 40 → 50 albums.

But it looks like I got some more on my computer, 3525 songs, 11d, 15h, 43m
I love it when bands give away old albums that they aren't selling anymore and post it them self on a filesharing websites.... I guess it's not very popular outside small metal scenes though...

Many are from about '92 (just look at the pictures:)) by bands that had good intentions but didnt make as good songs as they wanted to.... but there are hidden gems between there.

If you have troubles reading Icelandic you might want to use this site http://translate.google.com/#

Most of these albums are posted by members of the bands, but all with consent.

I like all of this but I still force my self to use the scale 1 → 5

Black Metal:
Afsprengi satans - 2004 - Death to Christianity [Demo] - Raw Kvlt 2/5
POTENTIAM - BÁLSÝN (2000) - Accessible, Hero 2/5
Sólstafir - Í Norđri (Demo 1995) - Slow, cold, think burzum 4/5
Sólstafir - Í Blódi og Anda - Epic/melodies, not typical black metal very different form the other album ↑ 4/5
Múspell - Demó Upptökur (means demo recording) - typical black metal 3/5

Heavy Metal:
Sólstafir - Masterpiece Of Bitterness - Epic, sigurrós like 4/5
Andlát - Mors Longa - great metal with bit death metal and hardcore influences 4/5
Momentum - As leaves fall from the tree of lie EP - insane drummer, bit like Mayhem, more technial than catchy 3/5
XIII - Fruits (1993) - sounds bit american, reminds me of metallica but it's definitely nothing like it 1/5
In Memoriam - Demo 1992 - Catchy, jolly 4/5
Strigaskór #42 - Blót - old metal band, folk, weird stuff 1/5

Death metal:
Severed Crotch - Soul Cremation (2007) - Similar to Cannibal Corpse 5/5
Sororicide - The Entity - Oldschool, very old death metal album 2/5
Gone Postal - Promo 2008 - Brutal, slam, guttural gore growling 5/5

GrindCore - Forgarđur Helvítis - Gerningarveđur(2002) - Accessible competed to the genre, hint of death and black metal influence in few songs 5/5

I'm not on my computer that has all my songs listed, ATM, but it's roughly a month's worth of songs..something like 8000-9000 songs. I've ripped just about my entire collection of CD's to my hard drive(s) and my husband is working on his collection, now too--as a matter of fact, that's what he just went to go do right now, go rip a few more CD's. (lol)

It says 41,418 songs but that`s not true - for every flac there is an ogg, yet every mp3 stands alone.

The true number is about 23,000 on my flac/mp3 hard drive

Then I have over 1000 lps, but about 40% of them are duplicated on cd (and therefore on my hard drive).

I`ve also digitized a few of them, not many.

So I`d say somewhere between 27,000 and 28,000 songs.

Every single one of them legally bought.

(Except for a few that I`ve borrowed and ripped - so sue me)

If you want to boost your music collection with some absolutely free and legal music:

The SXSW festival sampler torrents:

http://hewgill.com/sxsw/

Roughly 10 gigs of music in different genres.

The Labrador seasonal samplers:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4257645/LabradorSummerSampler
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3751261/Labrador_Summer_Sampler_2007_-_incl_track_names
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4832773/Labrador_Spring_Sampler_2009

Lots of good indie stuff.

Silence is Sexy has all their albums up for download.
http://www.silenceissexy.nl/

and the list goes on and on, there are tons of legally available music, podcasts, movies and audiobooks out there. The quality does vary but generally it is good stuff.

Please do support artists who put their work out there for consumption. It is a promotional tool for them but if you like it please help put food on their plate.

We really should have a perm. thread to share all this kind of goodness.

Currently 5.78 GB (approx 600 songs)

My collection topped out at about 30,000 songs totaling around 275GB, but that was when I was doing some DJ work on the side for a website I was helping run. After I moved on from that, I culled the collection down quite significantly to the current "light" amount it is now.

Music Collection = 0 songs.

With Pandora One (http://www.pandora.com/pandora_one) I have no need to collect music, I just stream my own radio stations with Pandora.
