Got myself a bit confused here with partitions trying to get 9.04 to dual boot with XP.

Anyway, it seems that the XP machine does not have a XP Recovery Partition. What are the consequences of that? When I repartition how big should I make it?

When I put Ubuntu on my laptop with Vista (a year ago) I recall using Vista to shrink the partition and then gparted to do the rest during installation. Can gparted shrink the partition XP boots from safely (ie. not have to reinstall XP and other programs)?

Finally, the installation defaulted to wanting to install on the second hdd on that machine. Again, can I use gparted to safely shrink the partition? And I assume grub can handle ubuntu being on the second hdd?

Thanks for you patience. I did look for answers but maybe with the onset of spring my mind wants to be outside gardening....
