i dont get it, why people so into it. well i know for sure that kind of people will go into anything , but what is it?

Would it be like if i ever had some friends, and i get them to install hamachi, we could all chat, right? and if i tell people to log into my hamachi room it would work right?

so "the great idea" of twitter is nothing but "that"???

do you understand my point??

Bulletin Boards (BBS) have been around since the early 1980s. It is really nothing new, but there are new suckers born all the time and a few million only recently discovered it.

I'll be honest. I absolutely LOVE Twitter :)

For me, it's like a diary, a social feed, a social networking tool, a way to keep up with my favourite bands and people in the world... it allows everyone to have their own "life feed" or feed of whatever they like really, that anyone can follow! :)

Personally, it's genuinely my favourite website on the internet :)

It's also been brought alive by the fact that people can now post of course from mobile devices, something which would not have been as commonly possible even 5 years ago. You can use special software, the mobile site or text messages ^_^

For me, it's like a diary...

Seriously? Now, I'm not sure about you, but I believe the majority of people would consider their diary one of the more private things of their life. I do keep a diary, and a typical entry is usually long enough to fit over 50 twitter feeds. And I don't keep track of my every (physical or mental) excrement in it, either.

I see how twitter might be useful for people who never evolved their writing abilities beyond mobile phone text messages, as a platform where their lack of education is considered acceptable or even the norm, but seriously, just keep your own diary or get a blog if you must. This enforcing of the 140-character rule is downright ridiculous.

I dunno, I tend to find I post often enough and concisely enough that I can cover most things in 140 character tweets :)

It used to get annoying, but I guess you get used to it! lol

Here are some funny parodies about Twitter:

Tweetlejuice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofsFmUA7K-8

I think at the end of the day, I have said and will probably always say... it's not for everyone.

Not everyone enjoys keeping a diary or blog. Not everyone enjoys broadcasting it (although you can set it to private). Not everyone likes the 140 character restriction. etc etc :)

I like it though ^_^

Identi.ca, and the Laconi.ca software it uses, were all made AFTER twitter.

Facebook thread all over again go!

I like twitter, must times I just post something funny found over the internets. Things like "Im gonna upload 100 photos of me naked for no reason at all".

And I stop following the guys that just complain about their life and talk nonsense.

EDIT, I forgot, Here in Mexico some organization (The National University I guess) is going to put some kind of creative effort over twitter, like a novel, write in 140 characters or less at the time.

I use it to tie a lot of other services together. For example, when I publish a new blogpost, a Twitter feed service picks it up and Tweets it automatically, then it gets pushed to my Facebook status as well. Likewise when I thumb something up on Stumbleupon.

Really Twitter is just a publishing service. You can use it to get any short text or photo out there, whether it's a link to content or some pointless tweet about what you just ate. Up to you what you choose to publish.

Useful, but hardly revolutionary IMO.

I tweet basically... I mean, let's say I'm walking along and no-one else is around and I see something worth mentioning, or think something cool or funny, I'll tweet it :)

Or let's say there is something I think it's important I voice, even in just a small way, I'll tweet that ^_^

It's like blogging but for people with ADD by people with ADD.

oh oh.. shiny, must express my deep felt opinion in 140 characters or less. Brother please, if it is worth writing about it is worth at least investing the time to write a decent article.

Twitter is the bane of in depth discussion and well reasoned argument.

It is not to say that this kind of service can't be useful, e.g. I might like to get messages for things like monitoring systems. The best example of twitter use I have seen is probably CATaLOG (http://www.nermal.org/projects/catalog/). However that is the extend of it's usefulness to society.

If it actually is Glenn Danzig, or the real Queensryche...

Twitter is full of liars (http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2009/02/how-celebrity-imposters-hurt-twitters-credibility051.html).

Anyway, I think that the Twitter craze is just one of those ephemeral things. Most users are fairly new, thanks to all the media coverage the service has experienced lately. It will settle down in a while, as all crazes do, until there's just a tiny hardcore of dedicated users and everyone else has moved on to the new latest thing.

What's that though?

And no I genuinely think that Twitter, or some kind of evolution of it, marks a cool little progression in the interaction and connectivity we have with each other on the internet :)

I can find out more about bands, celebrities or anyone that I care about, and the world just feels that little bit more connected!

Facebook just... to me.. felt like it separated us into little groups again, which is good in a sense, but I really like the whole "global village" thing :)

mmh,

I do understand that it can be a very powerful comunication software (?,lol)

But as I said It can be done with hamachi also, logging into a chat room letting your friends know about it would work.

For artists andpeople in the media bussiness it sure helps to advertise, to sell .

Is like my friend: he says he can not contact me anymore cos i dont log into myspace for months and because i have no facebook?? I said, have you ever heard of e-mail? I dont wanna hear your profile song, i dont want to know your mood , I dont care about your pictures or whatever (only if theyre girls :P) ...
i have gmail.msn/gamertag/yahoo im in several forums, also in xfire (with my new and improved nickname)

and he says he can not reach me anymore.

I guess it is for "that" kind of people.

I think i just dont get how regular kids use it. but lets say if i have my cooworkers scattered around the farm, or facility and something needs to be done you could tweet it to the cell phone (?)

I mean is sure seems useful but i do not like the way its been used.

I guess....(also im a little anti-social, :P)

wow, how come when im requesting help nobody posts anything, you crazy 4zs people?? lol .. whatever

Twitter is the equivalent to Facebook's "Status Update," minus everything else about Facebook. In essence, it is akin to passing private notes to a fellow in class, although that class is the world and the message is anything but private.

Actually, introducing a limitation is a very common strategy for developing writing skills. Come on down off the high horse, you're clearly not comfortable up there.

As with anything, if you don't like Twitter, don't use it. I'm not sure posting in the "community cafe" section of a Linux message is a good place to get judgmental about people posting shallow opinions about trifling things, though.

owh I have my real issues with hearing people say that! lol

Ok first of all, the simplicity is an attraction in itself, it's more direct, more focused, and can be accessed and posted to easily from a mobile device. Also, the system of simply "following" people instead of having to be mutual friends, means people like celebrities can go on there and tell large numbers of people things at once without having to see all their individual updates as well.

Additionally, the system of @ responses allows for quick, easy, targeted and always received responses to people's posts, even if they are celebrities who get a lot of replies back.

Twitter is also easy to search :)

And actually you CAN make your tweets private.
