user account creation case sensitive

Hi

I am trying to set up a user account on my ubuntu 9.04. It seems to be case sensitive as it does now allow me to set a user name which starts with a capital letter and has a capital letter in between.

It says that user name should be all in lower case letters.

I need such a user name as I am trying to install matlab that shares license only when accessed through that account name.

I managed to create the user account from the command line but how to set the permissions for the user.

Using the system > Administration > Users and Groups does not allow me to change the properties because it considers the user name invalid. The user name I am using is "MatlabUser". Note that it has two upper case letters.
