9.10 (karmic) not 9.04 (Jaunty)

OK, well this is awkward. I installed ubuntu persistantly on my usb drive. Then I reformated my harddrive to use it as external space for MP3s and videos, and other junk. Now I can't install ubuntu to my Hard drive, b/c it says that the hard drive is mounted, when I unmount it, it still says it's mounted. I tried reformating it and it still wont install ubuntu to the hard drive. I have even taken all formating off of the hard drive.

first question:
How do I install ubuntu back to the Hard Drive?

second question:
Would it be wise to install Kubuntu on an SD memory card for my computer to boot from (the operating system itself, not a persistant install)?

- I want something I can run from computer to computer

I just took out the hard drive (Literally). Still If I install Kubuntu on an SD card, can I take it from computer to computer to boot with, but is it smart to do so, is my question.
