I am a new comer to Xubuntu 9.04. I installed with no issues.
I started to install the pre-requisites to install GTK+ (./configure, make etc) and was going well. I couldn't install properly Glib so I used the GUI.
Now, after installing these components the desktop items will not load when I reboot Xubuntu.
I can get to the command console with ctrl+alt+F2.
In the mean time I executed the commands separately:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop
theses may have completed successfully (no obvious errors) and when I reboot shutdown -ry 0 I get the same result: I can see the desktop background but no control bar, no desktop icons.
I can still use my Windows XP machine to connect to the shared folder i created on the Xubuntu computer so the Xubuntu is not completely dead in the water.
If there are any suggestions that will be good.
Re-installation from CD that will be my last resort.
