Hello,

I need to use a gif animation that I have made as a screensaver. The gif animation can be converted into a different movie format if necessary. But how do I use it as a screensaver? I don’t see an option anywhere in the screensaver preferences. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Hmmm my guess is to use the "pictures folder" screensaver and put the gif in your pictures folder. I've never tried though... but trying doesn't hurt. :)

Thanks for the reply. I tried putting the gif image in the pictures folder, and it came up, but was not animated. If I open the gif file, in the default application, it is animated. Any other ideas?

Well, my last try would be to try and use the f-spot screensaver. Check this wiki (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Photos/Slideshows) on how to setup the screensaver, then try it. those my 2cents.

Still no luck. Thanks anyways.

I converted my gif file into an swf file, in an effort to follow these instructions:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/how-to-get-swf-screensavers-515495/
and
http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#mpeg

Unfortunately, I get pretty lost in them. I have xscreensaver and adobe flash player installed, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. Can anyone help me?
