View Full Version : [SOLVED] desktop crashed after initial update

Hi,
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix on my new HP Mini 1116. The live session and the install went perfectly (except for the known bug with the system speakers). I switched to classic desktop, then ran a system update and, before rebooting, I also downloaded the codexes for Movie Player and Flashplugin.
When I rebooted, there was no desktop at all (besides the desktop background) and the only action I could perform was through right clicking. However, any windows I managed to open that way had no controls (i.e., no resize or close functions etc.). Looking at home/myname/desktop revealed nothing at all besides the new unnamed folder I'd just created.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
David

Update: this is actually a known bug that seems to have been pretty much solved. You can read up on it here:

I found a good price and was looking at getting one of these. Any other comments on how it works?
Wireless, the sound issue, speed?
Thanks, Geoff
