Hey there great folks.

I just recieved my jaunty dvd i am presently running hardy heron is there a way to upgrade instead of perfoming a full reinstall.

Yes. You can use the Update Manager to upgrade from Hardy Heron to Intrepid Ibex, and from there to Jaunty. You can't skip releases and go directly to Jaunty, though.

you can go from 8.04 to 9.04 with an alternate cd (dvd?) upgrade, but not the live cd/dvd.

+1 although I am not sure there is a alternate "DVD". Not sure if canonical offers the alternate in DVD.
