As the title says, im lookin for the best sub-50 remote. Im not looking for anything too fancy, just good compatibility and full functionality. oh and ease of set-up too.

give us a chance!

I've now used a Windows Media Centre Remote (The new Philips et al) in 2 different setups with ease. These can be picked up on ebay second hand for less than 30

See this blog for a different (more intuitive IMO) config file:

I like the standard tivo remote. There's two versions; the grey one and the black backlit 'Glo' one. The Glo version costs $50 U.S. and the grey one is cheaper.

The conf files for those were not in the last mythbuntu release, but there are conf files posted on the main lirc site (so you just have to manually install them).

I use this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880121001&cm_re=anyware_remote-_-80-121-001-_-Product

It's a great, basic remote. The only drawback I see is that it can't control your TV. If that doesn't matter to you, then you're golden.

Edit: You don't have to buy it from Newegg; it was just the link I had handy. Also, for the record, any of the newer MCE remotes should be basically identical in functionality.

i went and got the philips srm 5100 from amazon, then followed the short guide in kelvinelk's post. I couldnt be more impressed with this remote! it does everything I need and more! no need for multiple remotes now, can use this one for all my needs.
