View Full Version : [ubuntu] Visual Effects Freeze and Hard Restart

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop computer. I was (and still am) having issues with browsing for files in programs such as Cedega, Giver, and Furiusiso. I found out recently that it does it with any program though (OpenOffice, Wine, etc.).

The source of the problem is when I have Visual Effects turned on normal or extra. What happens is the screen will freeze with the browse window blank. Sometimes when I hover over the window with my mouse some of the icons will appear. However, after a few seconds the mouse dramatically slows down, gets glitchy and eventually freezes all together. It forces me to do a hard restart at that point because Ctrl-Alt-Delete wont work anymore.

Let me tell you what I have tried so far:
1. Reinstalling the graphics driver. - didn't work
2. Downgrading the graphics driver. - didn't work
3. Reinstalled some of the programs that was causing the freeze. - didn't work

I really need help. If anyone can give me some insite on how to fix this I would very much appreciate it.
