Desktop GUI on Server

Hi All,

Is it possible to put the standard desktop on Server edition without all the office products. I want to manage my server easily and prefer not to use the command line. And I don't want to bog down the installation with un-necessary software.

any ideas?

I have never tried it but I understand that you can install just gnome-core to get the essential desktop elements with out all of the other stuff that comes in the ubuntu-desktop metapackage.
You'll also need to install gdm if you want to boot automatically into a graphical environment.
